The operational challenge

The packing station is where a reusable kit becomes a particular assembly ready for processing. If kit identity, content counts and missing instruments are recorded separately, the downstream team has less context when a question arises.

The SurgiDat approach

SurgiDat Packing connects child-kit identification with count completion, tray photos, missing-instrument recording and assembly labeling. Saving the packing creates the assembly UID that follows the next lifecycle.

The value to evaluate

A consistent packing record supports clearer handoffs, investigation of shortages and review of packing activity. The same assembly identity carries the record into processing, stock and case allocation.

A practical workflow

  1. Find the right kit

Search or scan the UID, alternate number, serial, temporary tray tag or kit name. Select the correct child kit where a parent has children.

  2. Complete the assembly

Review the count and use the tray photo and missing-instrument options as needed.

  3. Create the lifecycle identity

Save the assembly and generate or scan the configured assembly label. SPDL-only facilities use the preprinted label as the assembly UID.

  4. Hand off to processing

Use the packed queue to review assemblies awaiting a sterilizer load, with review and reprint access.

An illustrative scenario

A tray is packed with a known missing instrument. The recorded exception belongs to that packing event and can be reviewed using the assembly UID, rather than being treated as a permanent description of every future packing of the kit.

Measures for a facility pilot

A focused starting point

Prepare a small group of parent and child kits, validate contents and identifiers, and test scanner and printer behavior. Include missing instruments, duplicate search matches, label reprints and an out-of-maintenance kit in the walkthrough.

Scope and interpretation

An open maintenance record prevents the kit from being packed. A parent with child kits is not itself packed. SSK quick packing is an ad hoc assembly route and is distinct from loan-set receiving.
